Phobias & Fears
One of the most common purposes of hypnotherapy is for help with overcoming a phobias & fears.
A phobia is an irrational fear of either a place, situation or object that in reality causes little or no real danger.
A phobia is a learnt behaviour and because it is learnt, so it can be unlearnt and a new more useful behaviour put in its place.
Specific or direct phobias are fears of things such as spiders, flying, infections, snakes, heights, needles – the list goes on. These most common phobias can be easily cured by the client learning a hypnotherapy technique which teaches a new behaviour pattern in response to the phobia. So rather than feeling panicked when boarding a plane, you would feel calm and in control.
A social phobia revolves around a fear of how others might see you, what they think of you, and a feeling that whatever you’re doing is being noticed. In a nutshell, it is a fear of being judged and it can be a debilitating condition. Sufferers often arrange their lives around avoiding specific situations where they feel their anxieties. Social phobias can be treated using a variety of techniques. Visualization could allow the client to ‘practice’ new behaviours while in the safety of a hypnotherapy induction. Suggestions can help raise the client’s self image and esteem so they start to see that they are worthy and equal to anybody else. *
